If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;

If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too:

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

當和你有關的人都失掉了理智而責怪你時，若你能保持清醒；

當眾人都懷疑你時，若你能信靠自己的立場也容忍他們的疑慮；

假若你能等待又能忍耐，
被毀謗時也無須去澄清，
被恨惡時卻不遷就屈服，
還能不偽善也不自以為是；

Kipling received the 1907 Nobel Prize for Literature. In a 1995 BBC opinion poll, this poem "If—" was voted the UK's favorite poem.

There is an inscription above the entryway to the Wimbledon Centre Court which reads —

"If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same"
